First Aid Level 1 and First Aid Level 2 (Wilderness First Aid) certification are required for the primary First-Aid provider for activities, such as sleepaway camp, weekend camp, family camp, camping, and travel (domestic or international), when emergency response time is 30 minutes or longer, and for events over 200 participants.
Designed for Girl Scouts and Girl Scout leaders, outdoor enthusiasts, and anyone who works or spends time in remote environments, this course teaches advanced skills to be used in emergencies when help from professional first responders may be far away. (RedCross.org)
Prerequisites: Must be at least 14 years old and hold current adult CPR/AED certification.
First Aid Level 2 Training (Wilderness First Aid) from outside organizations, such as REI, are acceptable. Email a copy of your certification to: customercare@girlscoutsoc.org
GSOC POLICY (First-Aid Providers): The presence of a First Aid Kit and an adult with appropriate current certification in First Aid and CPR for Adults & Children is required for activities away from the normal meeting place, overnights, and activities with a higher risk as denoted in Safety Activity Checkpoints. First-Aid Level 1 certification is required for the primary First-Aid provider present at Girl Scout Activities such as programs, events, travel and camping within an emergency response time of 30 minutes or less. First Aid Level 1 and First Aid Level 2 (Wilderness First Aid) certification are required for the primary First-Aid provider for activities, such as sleepaway camp, weekend camp, family camp, camping, and travel, (domestic or international) when emergency response time is 30 minutes or longer, and for events over 200 participants. Events for 500 or more participants must have two Level 2 First Aid providers (Wilderness First Aid). The following health care providers may also serve as First-Aid providers: physician, physician’s assistant, registered nurse, nurse practitioner, or emergency medical first responder.
The First-Aid provider must never administer any medication to girl members without written instructions by the parent or guardian. This includes all prescription and over-the counter drugs, topicals and ointments. Medications must be in their original containers.
