Summer Sleepaway Camp at Camp Scherman is an enriching outdoor experience for Girl Scouts in grades 2 - 12

Campers experience independence as they explore the world around them, challenge themselves to try something new, and build self-confidence while making new friends.

Registration & Fees

Is financial aid available? toggle arrow

Yes! Financial aid "camperships" are awarded to GSOC youth campers with a current Girl Scout membership on the basis of financial need only and are available for Camp Scherman summer sleepaway camps, Camp Scherman weekend camps and GSOC day camps. Camperships must be submitted no less than 6 weeks prior to the start day of the camp.

Camperships - Financial Aid Application

When does registration open and close? toggle arrow

Registration is ongoing throughout the spring and early summer. However, sessions close 2 weeks before the camp session begins or when they reach full capacity, whichever comes first. We recommend registering early to secure your spot. For sessions that are full, we maintain a waitlist and will contact you if a spot becomes available.

What is the registration deposit, and is it refundable? toggle arrow

There is a $75 deposit per camper. This deposit is non-refundable under all circumstances.

Summer Camp Cancellation Policy toggle arrow

Summer Camp Cancellation Policy:

All cancellation requests must be submitted at least 4 weeks prior to the camp. Cancellation requests must be in writing to CustomerCare@GirlScoutsoc.org. Please include the full names of those who cannot attend, the camp program name and the camp date. Please note that the $75 deposit per person is non-refundable.

More than 4 weeks prior to camp: Full refund minus $75 deposit per camper.

Less than 4 weeks prior to camp: No refund (except for medical reasons – must be approved by GSOC).

What is the cost of camp? toggle arrow

Camp Scherman uses a flexible, membership-style pricing system with three tiers so families can choose the option that best fits their needs.

GSOC Girl Scouts may select Tier 1, our most subsidized rate, or Tier 3, which reflects the true cost of operating summer sleepaway camp.
Visiting Girl Scouts from other councils may choose Tier 2, a subsidized rate for non-GSOC members, or Tier 3.

Families are encouraged to choose the tier that aligns with their membership type and financial comfort. All selections are completely confidential and do not affect the camp experience in any way. No matter which tier you choose, every camper receives the same high-quality, memorable Camp Scherman experience.

Prices vary depending on session duration and activity.

Brace yourself for an adrenaline-pumping journey where you'll tackle everything from taking aim at the axe throwing range to conquering our climbing tower. But wait, there's more! Experience the added bonus of thrilling program themes tailored exclusively for our older campers in every Camper Explorer session. After Dark Exploration- In addition to trying a bit of everything above, these campers will be able to explore camp after dark and take part in special late-night programming.

Read, Relax & Recharge- In addition to trying a bit of everything above, these campers will be able to take some time to intentionally relax and find joy in slowing down.

This summer is all about creating your own epic tale, choosing from a variety of activities that promise to make this season one for the record books. Whether you're new to camp or a seasoned pro, challenge yourself and try a little bit of everything. Take aim at the archery and axes throwing ranges, conquer the climbing tower, and check out the view from a hike or two. Explore all that camp has to offer during 12 fun-filled days at camp. Chords and Campfires

Grades 5 - 8, RH Cabins - Session 2

Unlock the magic of music as you embark on a journey to learn the guitar and become the ultimate campfire maestro! Dive into the world of melodies, chords, and rhythm, and soon you'll be strumming along to all your favorite tunes. When you’re not playing the guitar, immerse yourself in all that camp has to offer–paddling across the lake, climbing the Tower of Power, taking aim at archery, and so much more. While bringing your own guitar is music to our ears, it's not a prerequisite – enthusiasm and a thirst for musical adventure are all you need!

*If you have a guitar, you are encouraged to bring it, but it is not required.

Good Eats

Grades 4 - 6, Lower Camp Cabins - Session 4

Embark on a culinary adventure as you whip up a storm, transforming ordinary ingredients into mouthwatering masterpieces and delectable treats that will leave your taste buds dancing! Calling all aspiring equestrians! Saddle up for an unforgettable riding adventure for beginners and intermediate riders alike. Elevate your equestrian expertise by honing the skills of mounting, dismounting, and perfecting your riding posture for leisurely walks and spirited trots. *Please note all campers will take a riding test and their riding ability will determine their participation in certain equestrian activities. *Please note that all riding is Western style.

Ridge Riders*

Grades 7 - 12, Lower Camp Cabins - Sessions 2 - 3

Elevate your equestrian prowess! For our Intermediate and Advanced older riders, saddle up for a journey of refinement as you advance your Western trotting skills, experience the thrill of bareback riding, and master the art of navigating poles at a higher gait. Step into the saddle with Wrangler in Training, a hands-on program where you’ll develop leadership skills while working closely with horses. Over the course of the session, you’ll learn to care for, guide, and lead these magnificent animals, gaining confidence in grooming, saddling, and riding. As a Wrangler in Training, you’ll also mentor younger campers, practice teamwork, and take on responsibilities that build real-world leadership skills. Your camper will have the opportunity to work on earning parts of various badges and may even complete some badges entirely through engaging and fun activities. They'll come home with a detailed sheet outlining the badge requirements they worked on, allowing them to see their progress and continue working toward their goals.

Volunteer Information toggle arrow

Camp Scherman is looking for adult volunteers to come up for a session. We are seeking energetic, outgoing adults that love being with campers in the outdoors.

Sessional responsibilities will include working with other camp staff to supervise campers, star gazing, cooking out, singing songs, hiking, being a part of lifelong memories for all the campers. Training for this amazing opportunity is provided. Summer sessions are 5 days, Monday to Friday.
