INSPIRE Program

Girl Scouts of Orange County's NEW Signature Multimedia Program

INSPIRE™, housed exclusively at the Argyros Girl Scout Leadership Center (GSLC), is Girl Scouts of Orange County’s signature interactive multimedia program. Through INSPIRE, Girl Scouts of all levels have life-changing opportunities to explore exciting 21st Century careers and learn how to take action on issues they care about, while developing an understanding of the importance and relevance of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in their everyday lives.

INSPIRE focuses on two key areas of leadership development that are cornerstones of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience - Career Exploration and Take Action. Each 1 ½ hour program introduces girls to inspirational role models on giant 80” television screens who share insights about their own career and leadership paths.

INSPIRE is girl-led and participants select the careers or take action theme they want to learn more about. During the experience, Girl Scouts break into small groups, engaging INSPIRE's interactive gameplay to build on the videos they’ve watched and discussions they’ve had with their Girl Scout sisters! INSPIRE’s fun, hands-on group activities get girls playing and working together to design a personalized character, create a digital poster, and record a group video about all they have learned!

Career Exploration

Career Exploration is a key component of the INSPIRE™ program. Through Career Exploration, Girl Scouts of all levels will hear from extraordinary women spanning diverse careers and learn the vital role STEM plays in what these women do, while exploring their own career aspirations.

Through interactive video presentations, INSPIRE brings career women right into the room with the girls, appearing life-sized on 80” television screens. The women, representing 15 different careers, will tell the girls about who they are what they do, the importance of STEM in what they do, and what they love about their careers.

The goal of the Career Exploration experience is to introduce Girl Scouts to an array of women and their careers, giving girls the opportunity to find out who these women are, what they do on a daily basis, and what they love about their professions. Girls also learn that it takes many different skills, including those in science, technology, engineering, and math to support a career— in fact there are over 80 careers with accompanying skills to explore!  At every level, Girl Scouts will hear inspiring messages from their on-screen role models and may even discover what it takes to achieve the career of their dreams.

Take Action

Take Action is a key component of the INSPIRE™ program. Through Take Action, Girl Scouts of all levels hear from Gold Award Girl Scouts across the nation who have used STEM skills to tackle important issues on topics from robotics to clean water and learn how to take action on issues they care about.

During INSPIRE, the Gold Award Girl Scout will appear on video telling her Girl Scout sisters about how she planned her project, budgeted expenses, and used STEM to make a lasting change.  Most of the Girl Scouts featured in INSPIRE are also recognized as National Young Women of Distinction, the highest honor conferred by Girl Scouts of the USA.

The goal of Take Action is to provide Girl Scouts with a fun, interactive experience that enables them to think about issues that matter to them, how they can build a plan to address those issues, and ultimately inspire them to create an impactful Take Action project in their own community.  Who knows—today’s INSPIRE participant could be tomorrow’s Girl Scout Gold Award recipient!

INSPIRE Experience

INSPIRE is girl-led and participants select the careers or Take Action theme they want to learn more about.

Whether your Girl Scouts choose Career Exploration or Take Action, each INSPIRE experience is designed to be 1 ½ hours long, but the group facilitator (a troop leader or mature Girl Scout) controls the gameplay to advance at the girls’ pace. The program itself is led by on-screen Girl Scout INSPIRE Guides, who help participating girls progress through INSPIRE and explain how to do each activity.

During the experience, Girl Scouts break into small groups and respond on their INSPIRE Pads to videos they’ve watched and discussions they’ve had!

Girl Scouts engage in fun, hands-on group activities, such as designing a personalized character, creating a digital poster, and recording a group video about all they have learned!

Troop leaders follow along with the girls’ progress, asking questions and encouraging girls to be inspired!

At the end of your experience, participants log into the INSPIRE website to watch additional inspirational videos about the career women, as well as access and download all activity content they created during their session.

INSPIRE Level Progression

Every INSPIRE experience is unique, and all INSPIRE experiences are designed to progress as girls get older. The INSPIRE gameplay is customized to the unique learning needs of each Girl Scout Level. All INSPIRE programs are set up with the same flow of activities, though the experience will never be the same.

Examples of Girl Scout level progression within INSPIRE activities:

Daises and Brownies

Daisies and Brownies will designate a Team Leader adult to give them guidance. Activities are designed for girls to practice decision making with the INSPIRE game play offering pre-populated drag and drop options for them to interact with.

Juniors and Cadettes

Juniors and Cadettes have more options for building on their critical thinking skills with INSPIRE gameplay that offers girls both drag and drop and fill in the blank choices.

Seniors and Ambassadors

Seniors and Ambassadors have the opportunity to expand their experience with access to the internet and the ability to conduct research through the gameplay.  Girl Scouts at these levels will be challenged with even more opportunities to come up with their own ideas during the INSPIRE activities.

The Argyros Girl Scout Leadership Center (GSLC) is Orange County’s new hub for Girl Scout STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) programs. Visits to the GSLC provide Orange County Girl Scouts from all cultures and backgrounds extraordinary opportunities to practice leadership the Girl Scout way, like a G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader)™, as they explore exciting 21st Century careers and learn how they can take action to make the world a better place.

Set on the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach, the GSLC provides the ideal locale for girls to have life-changing experiences as they embrace the relevance and importance of STEM in their lives. Girl Scouts also have plenty of opportunities to create lifelong memories -- kayaking from the bayfront property, toasting s’mores on the sprawling patio, and participating in water and sand activities.
