HUNTINGTON BEACH...Hey Kids, what time is it?
"Its Girl Scout cookie time."
Many of you have seen these young girls dressed in their uniforms in front of markets and businesses throughout Huntington Beach, never wondering the logistics of how those boxes of delicious Girl Scout cookies reach the hands of young troop members.
Last Saturday, January 27, 2924 vehicles lined up along Palo Alto Drive and Pinehurst Lane, in front of the Ocean View District Office waiting to receive their troop's order of cookies.
In the district's parking lot cartons of each kind of cookies stood in piles to be loaded into waiting cars and SUVs and driven back to troop headquarters to bring to their selling places on Sunday.
Helping to see that everything runs smooth was Brooke Carlson, who has been doing girl scout cookie drives for seven years.
"We will have 20 troops in the Huntington Harbour Service Center here today," said Carlson.
Meanwhile vehicles continued to load cartons into their vehicles.
Heather Vasquez was in charge of some 20 to 50 helpers includes drivers who bring in more cartons. Vasquez has been doing this for the past 5 years.
"We will have delivered 32,976 boxes of cookies that the girls will be selling on Sunday." said Vasquez. The girls are not allowed to start selling these cookies until Sunday. Their signs and small booths will come latter Vasquez said.
The cookie flavors that will be available this year include: Adventurefuls, Toast-Yay, Thin Mints, Caramel DeLites ,Lemonades, Peanut Butter Patties, Trefoils, Peanut Butter Sandwich, and Gluten-Free Caramel Chocolate Chip. The price $6 a box.
So now when you purchase boxes you can thank these hard working volunteers who are just a small part, but an important part, in seeing that you get to enjoy those great cookiies and the money you spend will help each troop.
