HUNTINGTON BEACH... Late Tuesday afternoon, December 17, 2024, Girl Scouts from Troop 7370 gathered at the Huntington Beach Church on Ellis Avenue for their “Operation Waymakers" event that they hope will brighten the faces of many staying over at the Huntington Beach Youth Shelter.
We expect over 50 Girl Scout to help fill boxes of needs and wants," said Maria Solis. "The boxes that the scouts will be filling will be special for either, a girl, a boy or both. We have set a goal of filling 100 boxes that we will be delivering to the Youth Shelter when the girls have filled all the boxes.
Some of the goodies that will be in those gift boxes include bath items, sunglasses, socks, food, beanies, brushes, craft kits, marker pens, hygiene essentials and more.

But before the scouts begin packaging the small gifts, they needed to be checked in that that fell to Scout Mara and Harper of Troop 7370.
A short time later the scouts were met with more scouts from Troop 2278 to help, but first the girls stood to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and then holding up three fingers, the girl scouts recited the Girl Scout Pledge.
Some of the gifts to be boxed
"We feel it is important to give back to the community, especially at this time of the year, said Solis.
Folding boxes to be filled
A long line of scouts now formed and as they began picking up items they wanted to fill their box so that each box the scouts fill would be slightly different from the other scout's boxes.
"Operation Waymakers" is a way to benefit local youths that are having a difficult time in their lives and are staying at the shelter during this holiday time. Several of the youths that Waymakers shelter are between 11 to 17 years
Writing a personal card to add to each gift box
This past fall the girl scouts participated in a program to raise monies to fund the gifts, They also contacted other local troops and their families for monetary help in purchasing the gift boxes the girls will be filling.
The scouts would also like to thank the Huntington Beach Church for letting us use the room, said Solis.
Troop 7370 normally meets in Sunset Beach, said Solis.

By the time the scouts finished filling their boxes, night had fallen and the boxes were transported over to the Youth Shelter with the hope that these young shelter residents will be able to have a special Christmas knowing that others care about them too.
