Dear Girl Scout Volunteers and Families,
First and foremost, I hope you and your family are well during this
most unusual and uncertain time.
I want to extend my deepest gratitude to our amazing volunteers and members for the ingenuity, passion, and dedication you have shown our Girl Scouts and the larger Girl Scout movement these past months. I have seen firsthand how quickly you have adapted to keep our girls connected and engaged with their community through virtual troop meetings, activities, and celebrations. I am so impressed by the meaningful connections you have provided our girls— connections that have helped them navigate the pandemic and challenges of our world with courage, confidence, and character.
If you haven’t been able to meet online, we understand, and realize that many of our members are juggling school, work, family, and new responsibilities and realities that were not anticipated at the beginning of this year. We want you to know that Girl Scouts is here for you and your girls as we transition into the new Girl Scout membership year. We know this year is going to be different, but also recognize that we can make it meaningful! I am excited about the opportunities our girls will have during these challenging times to connect with friends, build confidence and resilience, and develop skills that help them thrive. Never before have these opportunities been more important!
Now the good news! Girl Scouts will have the option to meet together in-person starting October 1, 2020. Of course, this comes with the ever present “safety first” mentality that is part of Girl Scouts. And there will be best practices in place to prevent the spread of COVID-19. On girlscoutsoc.org/covid19, you will find new and updated COVID-19 Guidelines to support your safe return to in-person troop meetings and activities. Please read the new guidance from GSOC completely; share it with your troop families and volunteers; and follow the procedures outlined as you plan your year. If you have questions or need support, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We are here for you.
We also recognize that not all of our members can return (or are comfortable returning) to in-person activities just yet. We understand and support you. Girl Scouts of Orange County will continue to offer robust virtual programming and resources for troop leaders and volunteers to support virtual gatherings. Additionally, Girl Scouts of Orange County has partnered with GSUSA and Zoom to provide discounted Zoom licenses at $36 each for our troops. Our goal is to have these licenses available for purchase by October 1st, 2020. Additional information on how to order your troop's license will be provided in the coming weeks.
With more good news, our Irvine Shop will reopen (in compliance with the COVID-19 Checklist for Retail Employers issued by the California Department of Public Health) on October 5, 2020. Hours will be Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Curbside pick-up and online shopping will remain available.
Again, thank for your patience during our due diligence to ensure that our guidelines comply with state and county regulations, the health department, and best practices to ensure a safe, meaningful, and fun experience for you and your girls. Whether you choose to meet online or in person, amazing opportunities are guaranteed for our Girl Scouts this year. If you haven’t yet, we hope you will renew her membership.
Thank you for everything you have done, are doing, and will do for Girl Scouts. I can’t wait to see photos of your troops in action and look forward to seeing you in person when able.
Yours in Girl Scouting,
CEO, Girl Scouts of Orange County
