Girl Scouts of Orange County 2020 Cookie Program for Troops
The 2020 Cookie Program Has Ended

In line with the State of California’s Stay at Home order issued on March 19, 2020 and local school closures, all in-person troop meetings or trips, extended cookie booths, Service Unit events, and other volunteer-led programs/events scheduled prior to May 15 must be cancelled. Visit our webpage for badges and activities that our Girl Scouts can do at home.

Troop proceeds at 80¢!
Cookies taken from Cupboards, virtual Cookie Share, and Direct Ship orders placed last week have put troops into Proceeds Level 7! GSOC girls sold an impressive number of Girl Scout cookies this season! Numbers are not yet final, so watch for April’s Member News for our annual list of Stellar Sellers and cookie program results.

Top Cookie Sellers – Cookie Reward Experience Dates
Due to the evolving situation involving COVID 19 – all upcoming top seller experiences may be postponed. All Girl Scout experiences prior to May 15 are currently being rescheduled. Visit gscookiesetc.org for the latest information on upcoming Cookie Reward Experiences. Families will be notified once event dates are confirmed.

  • Email copy of Troop Balance Summary to Service Unit Cookie Manager, cc Troop Treasurer & Leaders
  • Submit any delinquency forms or Counterfeit Bill Reports with required paperwork must be submitted online by 9:00 AM on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 (if necessary)

March 12: Debit of Troop Final Balance Begins

Troops may continue to sell remaining cookie inventory through March 31, 2020 with permission from the Service Unit Cookie Manager and Booth Coordinator.  These cookies should be allocated to girls in ABC Smart Cookies for recognitions since girls will be selling them and final paperwork should be completed and submitted by 9:00 am on March 13, 2019. Girls/Troops may sell cookies door-to-door in residential neighborhoods, at a cookie stand on their own OC property and to friends and family throughout the month of March. Anything else requires permission from the SU Booth Sale Coordinator.  Cookies may NOT be sold after March 31 without special permission from GSOC.

Cookie News for Troops

New! Order Cookies by the package.

To help our Troops achieve their goals, our amazing Cookie Cupboard volunteers are announcing their support of the following change effective March 1-8, 2020:

  • Beginning Sunday, March 1, 2020 ABC Smart Cookies Planned Orders UOM (unit of measure) will be changed to packages (instead of cases)
  • Order by the package!
  • Any number of packages and variety allowed (Does not have to be a full case)
  • Troops may want to bring an empty case or bag for their cookies when ordering less than a case

Place a planned order in ABC Smart Cookies with one of the following:  Cypress Cupboard, Irvine Cupboard, Tustin Cupboard, and Yorba Linda Cupboard.

Find answers fast in your Troop Plan Book! Troops are encouraged to allocate cookies to girls NOW in ABC Smart Cookies.

March 8: Girls’ Final Balance Due to Troop
(Troop Plan Book pages 25-27)

  • First payment has been added to ABC Smart Cookies
  • Remind girls of their total sales to see if they want more cookies to meet their goal especially if they are close to the next recognition level.  Remember, troops can pick-up cookies by the package at cupboards and do not need to get a full case.
  • Collect funds from parents; check for counterfeit bills
  • Record girl payments in ABC Smart Cookies
  • Deposit funds into Troop account RIGHT AWAY!

March 8: Cookie Program Ends

Troops with cookies may continue to sell inventory.  Check the Booth Scheduler in ABC Smart Cookies to reserve more booth sale sites.

March 6-10: End of Sale Processing ( Troop Plan Book pages 32-35)

  • Order virtual Cookie Share.
  • Allocate all cookies to girls.
  • Exchange damaged product with a cupboard.
  • Create/Update final recognition order AFTER all cookies have been allocated.
  • Determine if your troop earned the Walkabout patch and complete the online Walkabout Patch form.

Please Note:  if you have girls, who have sold 500, 750, 1000, 1250, 1500, 2000 or 2500 packages, remind them and their parents to check the dates of the 2020 Cookie Program Experiences to determine if they can make the date of the event or need to choose Cookie Dough instead.

March 10 by 3:00 p.m.

Helpful Hints:

  • Troop Proceeds will be adjusted in ABC Smart Cookies prior to final Troop Payment.  Troop proceeds are at $.74 at this time.  Every Cookie Counts to get us to the next proceeds level so please continue selling virtual Cookie Share!
  • Final balance of Council proceeds will be debited from troop accounts beginning Thursday, March 12, 2020.
  • Troops may continue to sell any remaining cookie inventory through the end of March, but may not have booth sales without permission from Booth Sale Coordinator.  If you have cookie inventory after Mar. 31, please contact customercare@girlscoutsoc.org for assistance.

Cookie Swap Site is live! 
This online site allows troops to advertise extra cookies to other Girl Scout Troops. Remember to remove your troop’s entry once you have transferred/swapped product with another troop.  See page 28 of the Troop Plan Book for more information. 

Please note:  All entries will be deleted on Mondays and Thursdays at noon in an effort to keep current information on the Cookie Swap Site.

Mystery House Clues Update
Encourage girls to go door-to-door and they just might earn themselves an exclusive patch, certificate and some house have Cookie Carts! Learn more about Mystery Houses here.

Girl Money Reminders
While it doesn’t happen often, a troop may receive a counterfeit bill and not even know it. Follow the recommendations below to protect your girls from counterfeit bills. If your troop receives a counterfeit bill, please follow the steps on the Counterfeit Bill Report located on gscookiesetc.org/cookies/forms. Council will reimburse up to $20 per troop for counterfeit bills received at booth sales.

  • Do NOT accept bills larger than a $20.
  • Take time to look at and feel the money you receive.
  • Check for obvious things like duplicate serial numbers, security tape and watermark (Check out our Counterfeit Money Detection Guide).
  • Use a Counterfeit Detection Pen with light.

February 27: Recognition Order Feature Goes Live!

  • Place your troop’s recognition order using the Recognition Order feature in ABC Smart Cookies beginning February 27.

Cookie News for Troops

Troop Proceeds Update
Troop proceeds are guaranteed at 71¢ per package and when the Council’s overall cookie sales reach 2,411,719 troop proceeds go to 72¢ per package. To date troops have sold 2,322,192 packages. We are so proud of the girls and grateful to our volunteers and parents for their support. Keep up the GREAT work!

Stellar Skills Contest
Calling all Orange County Girl Scouts who have standout cookie business skills! We want first-time sellers and veteran cookie pros alike to enter the Stellar Skills contest. One girl will be selected to represent each of the 5 Skills: Goal Setting, Decision Making, People Skills, Business Ethics, and Money Management. Our Steller Skills girls and their families will be invited to attend the Stellar Sellers Dinner, receive a special recognition of their Stellar Skills, and earn a fun patch! Complete the online entry form by March 31 to enter.

Find the Mystery House and Win!

There is at least ONE secret Mystery House in nearly every Service Unit. The first Girl Scout selling cookies to find one of the Mystery Houses will earn a special patch and certificate. Check Facebook or here for this weeks clues!

Remind girls to use door hangers as they go door-to-door and they just might earn an exclusive, special patch and certificate. Select Mystery Houses will award a Cookie Cart! 

Earn the Walkabout Patch! A fun opportunity for Girl Scouts to team up as a troop/group to sell cookies door-to-door, reach more customers, and earn a fun patch!

Cookie Swap Site will be LIVE on Wednesday, February 19! This online site allows troops to advertise extra cookies to other Girl Scout Troops. See page 29 of the Troop Plan Book for more information.

begins (Troop Plan Book pages 25-27). GSOC will automatically withdraw the first payment amount. Each bank processes payments differently, so it may take a few days to show up in your troop account.

February 25:
Troop Case Exchange Day
Troops that qualified for the Initial Order bonus will have the option to participate in a special CASE EXCHANGE DAY. This means bonus troops can exchange full cases for a different variety. So if you accidentally order too many Shortbread cookies, you can swap them for Thin Mints! S ome limitations apply. Did your troop earn the bonus? Find out here.

Cookie News for Troops

Please note that the Girl Scouts of Orange County offices and shop will be closed on Monday, February 17, for the Presidents’ Day holiday.

Rain or Shine: Booth Sales Begin this Friday, February 14 - Get ready to booth! Be prepared for the possibility of rain or heat. Store cookies off the ground and in a cool, dry location, like in an empty cooler or tarp-covered wagon. To prevent melting, store with a towel between the cookies and ice packs. Check with your Booth Sale Coordinator if an E-Z up is needed. Plus, Booth Angels will be visiting booths with certificates starting this weekend!

Review the Booth Sale Guidelines and Tips (Troop Plan Book pages 21-24) with your girls and check out our awesome tools for selling, which includes printable Cookie Share receipts and a Cookie Share flyer.

If you need to cancel a booth sale reservation, you must cancel in Smart Cookies right away, preferably by 10am the Monday prior so we can open the shift for other interested sellers. Thank you!

Adult Booth Sale Training 
The online Adult Booth Sale Training is now live! All Adults participating in booth sales must complete online Booth Sale training, even for parent/daughter booth sales. Get Started Here.

Note Cookie Program Update
The numbers included in yesterday’s Volunteer News Cookie Program update were incorrectly reported. The update below reflects the corrected total packages picked up and the remaining packages needed to reach the first troop proceeds jump.

The number of packages picked up by the troops is 2,130,192. Way to go! Just 281,527 more packages to reach the first troop proceeds jump.

Social Media Posts
Girls 13 and older may use Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and text messages, IMs and emails as online marketing tools to let family, friends and former customers know about the Cookie Program.  Girls under 13 cannot independently set up online marketing sites but can use their parent or guardians online sites with their approval and supervision.

Girl safety is always our first concern. We are guided by our Girl Scout Promise & Law in all our activities, including empowering girls to learn entrepreneurial skills through our girl-led cookie program.

We have plenty of Order Cards, Money Envelopes, Receipt Books, and Family Guides. If you need additional materials, contact your Service Unit Cookie Manager. Materials are also available at Council Headquarters in Irvine.

Last Call for Mega Shortages - Troops should contact a cupboard to make arrangements to pick-up the cookies they were shorted at the mega delivery by Friday, February 7, 2020.  Include “Mega Shortage” in the subject line and the following information in the body of the email:
Service Unit
Troop #
What they were missing (variety and # of cases)
Contact information
The Cupboard Manager will confirm receipt of the email and arrange a pick-up date and time with the troop. The Cupboard Location listing is located on gscookies.org/cookies/forms. You will need the ID and password for the Volunteer Resource page located in the Troop Plan Book.

Mega Overages – Troop should email cookies@girlscoutsoc.org letting us know they received too many cookies.  Include “Mega Overage” in the subject line and the following information in the body of the email:

  • Service Unit
  • Troop #
  • What extra cookies they received (variety and # of cases)
  • Do they want to keep or return the overage
  • Contact information

The Council will make the transfer in ABC Smart Cookies if the troop has decided to keep the cookies and will give instructions on where to take the cookies if they want to return the overage

Planned Orders (Troop Plan Book pages 17-20)
Troops can place up to 5 planned orders per week (Monday-Sunday).  Planned orders are placed by the CASE. Please be sure your Troop Cookie Coordinator’s information is listed on the Troop Information page in ABC Smart Cookies.  This information is used to send order pick-up confirmations by the Cookie Cupboard Managers.  Remember, Troops cannot pick-up their planned orders until they receive a confirmation email from a Cookie Cupboard.  Confirmations from the Cookie Cupboards will be sent within 24-48 hours of your pickup time.

Please note:  Do NOT change a planned order after it has been entered into ABC Smart Cookies.  The Cupboard Managers will never see the changes and will only hand out product that is listed on the confirmation you received from the Cupboard.  Place a new planned order if you need additional cookies.  If you need less, let the Cupboard Manager know by replying to the cupboard confirmation.  

Damaged Product – Complete the Damaged Product Report and contact a cupboard.  The Cupboard Manager will work with on a date and time to exchange the damage product.

Girl Money Reminders: Feb 1 – March 8
(Troop Plan Book pages 25-31)

  • Collect money from girls often and before giving out more cookies!
  • Count all money received in the presence of the parent/guardian or another adult.  Check all money received for counterfeit bills. Do not accept counterfeit bills. Give the parent/adult the yellow copy of the signed receipt. Troops keep the white receipt copy.
  •  Record all girl payments in ABC Smart Cookies.
  • Deposit girl money into the TROOP account.
  • All cookies received through Sunday, February 2, 2020 (initial order, planned orders picked up at cupboards and troop to troop transfers) will be included in the Troop’s first payment being debited from the troop’s bank account beginning Wednesday, February 19, 2020.  See page 27 of Troop Plan Book for details.

First Come, First Served Booth Sale Reservations

  • The Booth Scheduler opens at noon on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 for all troops/groups to reserve up to 75 booths and to cancel booth sales shifts in ABC Smart Cookies.  Beginning February 12, troops may book unlimited booth sales in ABC Smart Cookies.
  • Check with your Booth Sale Coordinator about public spaces such as parks, beaches, college campus, farmers market or corner booth sale opportunities (available ONLY with permission during the booth sale period Feb 14-Mar 8).

Cookie Swap Site will open on February 19.  All Troop Cookie Coordinators with valid email information in ABC Smart Cookies will receive login information soon.

Cookie News for Troops

Booth Sales Begin February 14 – All Adults participating in booth sales must complete online Booth Sale training, even for parent/daughter booth sales.  This training can be found at gscookiesetc.org/cookies will go live in January 29.

Update: Cookie Guide for Girls
The 2020 Cookie Guide for Girls, containing: Cookie Order Card, Money Envelope, a Cookie Guide for Girls containing goal tracking tools, Cookie Share information, a Simple Script for girls to use while going door to door and more was mailed to all girl members with an active 2020 Girl Scout membership. The Girl Scout Cookie Program began January 26.  If you have not received this mailing, please contact customer care and request a replacement.

Updates to ABC Smart Cookies Credit Card FAQs
We have received inquiries as to whether or not Gluten-free cookies can be purchased with a credit card. At this time, gluten-free cookies cannot be purchased in Orange County using a credit card. Troops will need to collect cash payments for Gluten-free cookies. Additionally, the Smart Cookies app cannot be used to scan credit cards.  Credit card information must be entered directly into the app. For additional information on the new credit card feature, see  Girl Delivery-Credit Card Instructions for New Orders. January 28: Late Initial Orders (Troop Plan Book page 13)
Place a Planned Order with a Cupboard if initial order deadline was missed. The Cupboard address will be on your confirmation email.

January 30: Cookie Cupboards Open (Troop Plan Book pages 17-20)
Place a Planned Order in ABC Smart Cookies for additional product as needed.  See Cupboard listing on the Volunteer Resource Page.

Initial Order Bonus Troops - View the troops here who have ordered enough cookies to qualify for the 2020 Cookie Program Initial Order Bonus. If you believe your troop should be on this list and is not, please complete the 2020 Cooke Initial Order Bonus Inquiry Form. Your inquiry will be reviewed beginning January 30, 2020.

Check Mailboxes for the Cookie Guide for Girls Packet
The 2020 Cookie Guide for Girls is in the mail and on its way to all girl members with an active 2020 Girl Scout membership. In this mailing the girls will find fun facts, key dates and all of the essential tools to jump start her cookie business and get the most out of the 2020 Cookie Program. Each packet includes cookie order card, money envelope, Cookie Guide for Girls, Cookie Entrepreneur Checklist, a special message just for parents, and more! The Girl Scout Cookie Program begins January 26. Please allow for delivery up until January 20th before reporting missing copies or requesting replacements.

If your Girl Scout doesn't receive her packet by next Monday, Jan. 20,  contact us.

Happy New Year! Initial orders are due by 11:59pm tonight, Tuesday, January 7th! If you do not place an initial order, your troop will NOT have cookies the first few days of the Cookie Program.

  • Partner with Troop Leaders to ensure all girls are registered, Schedule family meeting, Help troop and girls set goals and determine Troop’s initial cookie order after reviewing Initial Order Bonus requirements.
  • Enter Initial orders by CASES. There are 12 packages in each case.

Please note:  When placing the Troop’s initial order in ABC Smart Cookies, you must click on the delivery station at the bottom of the troop initial order page to make the delivery station “stick” for your troop’s order.  If this step is not completed, your Service Unit’s cookie totals will not balance and your troop’s order may not be included in the initial order delivery.  See the updated Entering Troop Initial Order instructions located on gscookiesetc.org/cookies/Forms.

  • Gluten Free Cookies preordered in September (see this list) count towards the Initial Order Bonus.
  • Council will enter Gluten-Free orders.

January 10: Print Troop Initial Order Report

  • Print Troop Initial Order report on January 10 to include troop Gluten Free order.  Council will enter the Gluten Free orders for each troop on January 11.   Use Troop Initial Order report at cookie pick-up in January and keep for your troop records.

Cookie News for Troops

Initial orders are due by 11:59pm on Tuesday, January 7th. If you do not place an initial order, your troop will NOT have cookies the first few days of the Cookie Program.

  • Verify Girl Information In ABC Smart Cookies; Partner with Troop Leaders for Girl Goal Setting Session.
  • Conduct Family Meeting & collect signed parent responsibility forms.

Cookie News for Troops

December 17, 2019:

  • NEW!  Place an Early Initial Order
    • Review the Early Initial Order Reward requirements to earn the Cookie Entrepreneur Patch Pin!
    • Troops who commit their Initial Order by 11:59pm on December 17, 2019 will earn a special Cookie Entrepreneur Patch Pin for every girl member registered in ABC Smart Cookies!

Now – January 8: (Troop Plan Book page 6-11)

  • Qualify for Troop Cookie Coordinator position.
    • Register via MyGS.
    • Select position in MyGS and pass background screening.
    • Submit Troop Banking Form.
    • Complete Troop Cookie Coordinator training, online training is still available.  Please note: the online Troop Cookie Coordinator training has five modules and a knowledge check (quiz) at the end of each of them.  The next module will not load until the knowledge check is completed with a passing score.
    • Connect with Service Unit Cookie Team for troop training materials & booth sale lottery day, time & location.
    • Partner with troop leaders to ensure all girls are registered, schedule family meeting, help troop and girls set goals and determine troop’s initial cookie order after reviewing Initial Order Bonus requirements.
  • Verify girl Information in ABC Smart Cookies (Troop Plan Book page 8)
    • Check all girls are listed in ABC Smart Cookies.
    • Work with troop parents & leaders to ensure registrations or transfers complete. Cannot add, edit or delete girls.
  • Hold a Family Meeting (Troop Plan Book page 10)
    • Use the Family Guide for training girls and parents.
    • Give the girls a role.
    • Collect signed Parent Responsibility Form for each girl participating.

January 7, 2020: (Troop Plan Book pages 11-13)

  • Place Your Initial Order
    • Review Initial Order Bonus requirements.
    • Gluten Free Cookies preordered in September (see this list) count towards the Initial Order Bonus NOT the Initial Order Early Reward.
