Volunteer Tip Time

Here is a tip for getting more people to volunteer with you. ASK!  That’s right, the personal ask is the number one way to get more volunteers.  When asking, follow these ABCs:

Ask in person – not in an email, general announcement or sideways comment.

Be Specific – say something like, “You are a great communicator and our troop needs your help.  The job I have in mind is sending the information to the parents once a week.”

Continue to ask – if the person says no, ask what they could do or when they can help. Say something like, “I understand your son is in football, at the end of the season could you do _______?”  If, at the end of the conversation, the person still doesn’t agree to the position or to helping, simply thank them.
