Volunteer Groups To Receive Presidents' Award
These two outstanding groups of volunteers will be recognized with the prestigious President's Award at the Girl Scouts of Orange County’s upcoming Magic Makers Recognition Event at the Disneyland Hotel on June 2, 2013. The President's Award recognizes the efforts of a program delivery team in moving an audience toward achievement of the Council's goals during a membership year.
Imagine Series Volunteers
The Imagine Series Volunteers assisted over 400 girls to discover the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The girls developed a strong sense of self as they participated in various experiments which required the girls to develop critical thinking skills. The girls worked in teams to think about the future and develop products to serve the community. This helped the girls feel empowered to think about their future and to make a difference in the world. It would not have been possible to serve over 400 girls with this STEM series without the Imagine Series Volunteers.
OWLS of Fullerton
The OWLS of Fullerton are a diverse group of approximately 22 retired Girl Scout leaders who are strong supporters of Girl Scouts in Fullerton and of Girl Scouts of Orange County. They have maintained their Girl Scout membership and involvement even though their troops and daughters have long moved on with their lives. Most members are in their seventies and eighties. They have served in numerous supporting roles in the Fullerton Service Unit; they have generously provided financial support to girls so they can participate in service unit events; they raise funds through their annual garage sale; they serve as trainers for various positions and skills; and they also provide administrative assistance to GSOC for large events like the August Kick Off. The OWLS are great Girl Scout role models for both girls and adults and serve as an active reminder that scouting is a lifelong experience and we can contribute to our communities into our golden years.
