Resident Camp Health Center Staff Members

These are Seasonal Positions for July 7 –August 14, 2014 with some possibility for extension of work based on enrollments for specific scheduled events/programs.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Health Center Supervisor, these positions are responsible for providing quality and knowledgeable first aid and health consulting for all those participating in camp including but not limited to all campers and staff.  They are also responsible to assist and support the development and delivery of a safe and meaningful Girl Scout Leadership Experience and Camp Programming in the following areas:

1) Waterfront (Lakes and Pool), 2) Nature, 3) Arts and Crafts, 4) Archery, 5) Hiking, 6) Night Program,

7) Meal Supervision, 8) Camp “Kapers” and other miscellaneous programming.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Maintain a high level of customer service to those participating in camp and when communicating with parents, doctors/emergency personnel and GSOC Headquarters Staff.
  • Assist with keeping health records, injury and illness logs and medical record logs current.
  • Carry out duties as delegated and maintain a positive leadership role while at camp.
  • Cooperate fully in all health and safety practices, policies and procedures.
  • May drive campers and/or staff to the doctor or hospital.
  • Assist with checking camper units and program areas for compliance with health and safety standards, including but not limited to Riverside County Health Standards and American Camping Association Standards and safety standards.
  • Follow the Health Center Healthcare Guidelines and/or doctors’ orders (written or verbal) for administering first aid, emergency treatment and nursing care in case of illness and/or injury.
  • Dispense prescriptive medications to campers per campers’ physician orders or approval of camp physician.
  • Dispense over-the-counter medication to campers per parents’ written permission.
  • Delegate and share duties and responsibilities of staff and camper health and safety with Health Center staff.
  • Share duties and responsibilities for staff and camper health and safety.
  • Be available via walkie-talkie for any calls for assistance while camp is in session regardless of the time of the day.
  • Ensure that the Health Center is clean and organized; this includes maintaining a current inventory of all first aid supplies and equipment, as well as proper storage at the end of the camp season.
  • Submit records and proper documentation. Reports and inventories as required/needed.
  • Keep Health Services Supervisor and Camp Director informed of all health problems and injuries on an ongoing basis.

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

  • Willing to accept the beliefs and principles of the Girl Scout Movement and accept the relevance and compelling benefits of Girl Scouting.  Accepts and adheres to the purpose and  principles of the Girl Scouting movement
  • Holds current and valid certifications in:  RN, EMT or holds a current Level II First Aid certification.
  • Supports all GSOC policies and procedures.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Current and valid First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Holds a current, valid driver’s license.
  • Excellent communication skills.  Ability to keep supervisor informed and aware of activities/problems with campers and staff and/or problems within his/her area of work.
  • Ability to share living quarters with other staff.
  • Experience in teaching and/or significant knowledge of archery, nature, arts and crafts, singing, games and/or general program planning.
  • Willingness to work with all persons.
