Irvine, CA—Today, Girl Scouts of Orange County (GSOC) and Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) launch the 2020 Girl Scout Cookie™ season, that special time of year when Girl Scouts across the United States hone their entrepreneurial skills as they earn money to power their own leadership opportunities and adventures. This season, Girl Scouts is announcing a sweet new way to celebrate young female leaders: refreshed packaging reflecting the amazing experiences cookie earnings make possible for girls. Among the Girl Scouts selected from across the nation, the new packaging features Orange County Girl Scout Ambassador Trinity Brewer, a resident of Tustin, who is prominently featured on both the Thin Mint and Shortbread cookie packages. In 2018, Trinity was recognized by Girl Scouts of the USA among six Girl Scouts from across the country as a national Cookie Pro for her outgoing approach to meeting new customers and determination in helping her troop meet their goals.
Trinity shared "Through the Cookie Program, I’ve learned that the number one reason people do not buy a product is because they haven’t been asked. This has encouraged me to be brave in sharing with people and taught me how to network. I have also learned how to manage money. Girl Scouts has given me the opportunity, voice, and skills to help my community.”
The Girl Scout Cookie Program® teaches girls about entrepreneurship as they have fun learning essential life skills like money management, public speaking, and decision making, which set them up for a lifetime of success. Nine in 10 Girl Scouts say the cookie program has built their entrepreneurship skills and ignited their interest in pursuing entrepreneurship as a career path—so every cookie purchase is an investment in the world-changing business leaders of tomorrow. What’s more, each and every purchase stays local to power life-changing experiences and leadership opportunities for Girl Scouts representing every zip code in Orange County.
GSUSA’s refreshed cookie packaging (cookies have the same great taste!) continues to emphasize what the cookie program is all about, and the updated images feature current Girl Scouts taking part in a diverse range of experiences available to members—from adventure-packed camping and canoeing, to exploring space science and designing robots, to taking action to improve their communities.
And with one of two lemon cookies available nationwide this year, Girl Scouts of Orange County is celebrating the Lemonades® cookie, a tasty way to support young female entrepreneurs. Lemonades, an OC favorite, are savory slices of shortbread covered with a luscious lemon-flavored icing. This year’s cookie lineup also includes Thin Mints®, Girl Scout S’mores™, Caramel DeLites®, Peanut Butter Patties, Shortbread, Lemonades®, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Thanks-a-Lots®, and the tasty gluten free Caramel Chocolate Chip cookie introduced last year. Customers who prefer not to buy cookies for themselves can purchase tax-deductible Cookie Share, which donates cookies to our nation’s military and local food banks. Each year in Orange County, more than 50,000 boxes of cookies are donated to food banks, military troops, and other charitable organizations.
“We are looking forward to another incredible season of empowering the next generation of female innovators, business leaders and entrepreneurs,” said Girl Scouts of Orange County CEO Vikki Shepp. “When you purchase a package of Girl Scout Cookies, you help tomorrow’s leaders experience what it takes to be successful – teamwork, planning, and determination. And, you are helping girls build essential business and life skills that will greatly benefit them in school, their careers, and living their best life.”
